Fashion as Art: CherryArts Summer Studio with Lilian Lara

Get creative this summer at CherryArts’ one-week art camp with Colorado artist Lilian Lara! Celebrate 35 years of the Cherry Creek Arts Festival through bold, wearable art! In this Project Runway–inspired camp students will work with small design teams to create dramatic looks inspired by past Cherry Creek Art Festival posters. Using custom fabric printed with iconic festival poster art as patterns, campers will transform two-dimensional artwork into sculptural fashion. Final designs will be featured as a special retrospective installation at the 35th Annual Cherry Creek Art Festival.
About the teaching artist: Lilian Lara is a mixed media artist specializing in unconventional sculptures, fashion, and textiles. Her art leans on the dramatic and creates outrageous displays of pageantry out of the everyday. She weaves story and memory to forge experiential spaces for a multigenerational audience. Lara’s immigrant roots shape her work and drive to make each piece an amalgam of innovation, defiance, and culture. Lilian will guide campers in exploring joy through the tiny wonders of everyday life.
